Introduction - Objectives & Targets and Environmental Management Programs (EMPs) (Establishing Goals and Roadmaps for Achieving and Improving Environmental Management)

Now that you've identified and ranked the most important environmental aspects and impacts at your facility, it's time to set some goals for improving your utility's environmental management. Setting objectives and targets presents an opportunity to identify where you want to be in the next year or two regarding your significant environmental issues. It's time to determine which of your significant aspects will have specific and measurable objectives and targets for improving your performance.

Let's now review the 9 steps of setting objectives and targets under an EMS and implementing goals with environmental management programs.

Reminder
Not all the environmental impacts that you identified as significant must have objectives and targets. Start with a manageable number (2 to 3) to build your EMS on. Remember that the EMS is about continual performance improvement!
