Calibration
Calibration falls under the activity of monitoring and measuring performance. An EMS requires that an organization monitor and measure the key characteristics of activities and operations that can have a significant impact on the environment. The equipment you may use to monitor and measure requires calibration. Such equipment can be used for monitoring water quality or measuring air emissions.
A procedure should be developed that specifies responsibilities and provides guidance on the calibration of monitoring and measuring equipment. The instructions for calibration should contain the frequency and the method of calibration (i.e. per the manufacturer's specification). Calibration records need to be managed in accordance with your records management procedure.
